Congratulations: Life Brags

While the poker has been as brutal as ever (except for when you’re taking souls with Ace Nine offsuit) a few of the community members have been enjoying good times and celebrating.  Our first gg goes to Hulljimi who tied the knot with Emma at the beginning of September before honeymooning in Vegas (and walking away with a tidy little profit we might add. That’s RTR’s influence that is). The second nh goes to Mr and Mrs BurnleyMik who are currently celebrating the birth of little baby Jacob, their first child. Everyone at Raise the River would like to congratulate you all or your prosperous begninings and wish Yorkshire Pudding’s significant other, MrsP, the very best of luck with their wee bun in the oven too.

Game 8 and Tables

Unfortuntely it has to be very short nd sweet this week. I had some great notes from the 4-handed battle onwards. the longest Bubble to date and some great 3-handed action. Unfortunately life circumstances mean i simply haven’t gopt the time to write and do this excellent match its justice.

Suffice to say the last four guys made it an epic battle, with each of them refusing to budge an inch!

Biffa Jumps up from 11th, all the way into the top four and contention for the win! Ant, with his second spot moves up the table slightly into 7th spot and Mair slips into the table with her first cash of the series so far.

Game 7 Results and Table

Unfortunately only 11 players took to the virtual felt for Game 7 of the RTR Premier League. It was still a well fought out battle though, with no quarter shown or taken.

So, I hear you ask, as I know its what you all read for.. “who got the dreaded wooden spoon?”, Who do you guys think?

Well, the first clue is that its a guy. Second clue he has had it before…twice! that narrow it down any? How about if i said, that this guy either goes all the way or bombs out early? Got it yet?

Ok, I won;t keep you in suspense any longer. Well done TEAULC! Wooden Spoon champion of RTR, picking up the title no less than three times in the 7 games played to date, that said he’s also right up there on the League table!

Anyway, here is this week’s breakdown…

11th - Teaulc - WOODEN SPOON - When he ran his top pair, AJ, into Ant66’s Top Pair, with AK.

10th - daser - When he didn’t believe Smoothplease had a hand on a dry 962 flop and he got it in woith his AJ, vs Sooth’s T9, which miraculously held! (Btw, daser has still to make it to the first break!)

9th - BurnleyMik - Making a play with the Hammer and moving over clouds raise on a T75 board, only for cloud to make a great call with top pair, T9 and eliminate him from the game.

8th - Zanshin - After a monsterous comeback from hardly any chips an excellent patient game was played and Zan fought himself back into contention, only to push into Hammerheid. Hammerheid had A7 and Zanshin had AK, unfortunately The A7 made two pair and it was game over for Zanshin, who is also probably our most unlucky competitor!

7th - YorkshirePud - Pud bust making a very gallant move with the Hammer only for our very only “hammer Smasher”, the Cloud to also destroy Yorkshire Puds hopes of glory! Pud raised, Cloud re-raised and Pud his short stack all in. Cloud, priced in, made the call. A final board of Q9697 just wasn’t enough to help the mighty hammer!

6th - Acornman - Acorn made a move with K9, only to run into Hammerheids 88. An 8 on the turn sealed the fate of our SnG expert!

5th - Ant66 - Last weeks runner up was getting short and made a move with A3 and smashed it head on into a dominating hand in the form of AQ, held by the Hammer Smasher.. the cloud. A3 got no help and Ant hit the virtual rail.

4th- This weeks Bubble Boy status was earned by the man who plays much better when he sits out.. Scouse! Scouse registered, but didnt make the game this week. He almost bloody got into the points though!

So, onto this weeks points scorers and you may recognise a couple of these names. Two very consistent players once again made the money. Did either of them take the top prize? Read on…

Going into the 3-way action Cloud was our chip leader, with Hammerheid hot on his heels. Smoothplease was on the short stack, but we have seen him make almighty comebacks in the past so he certainly isn;t to be under-estimated.

That took out one of our highest ranking players (in the league so far) and Hammerheid and Cloud left.

3rd - Smoothplease - $11.00 - Out with the hand above vs The Cloud

Hammerheid was sat in second spot before tonights game, but this was a sure fire now for him to regain that top position.

If he won and with only 3 games remaining he was putting himself into an excellent position to win the whole thing. At this point only one man could stop him… the crazy injun.. The Cloud!

Going into the HU the chipstacks were as follows:

Hammerheid had the advantage, but not by a great deal. The blinds were only 75/150 at this point, so there was still lots of play with both players having over 40 BB’s.

Hammerheids 3rd pair and Nut flush, somehow not getting there and gives Cloud a big edge.

Things were looking bad for Hammerheid, with a 4:1 chip defecit and a determined cloud it was always going to be a big ask, but one thing is for sure…you cannot write of the Hammeheid!!

Well thats mixed things up quite a bit!

Cloud makes a jump from 12th, all the way upto 5th Spot. Smoothplease steps up one position from 4th to 3rd, overtaking Zanshin in the process, but most importantly of all, we have a new League leader! Hammerheid has pushed Yorkshire Pud off the top spot and taken the lead!

Can he be caught? Only time will tell.

Game 6 result and latest Table.

Once again Sunday evening saw the RTr members sit down at the virtual felt to battle it out at NLHE. As usual it was a hard fought out battle and here is how it went down..

14th - The Cloud - WOODEN SPOON WINNER - Lost almost all of his chips on a Ace high flop vs Mair, with his AJ vs Mair’s AQ

13th - daser - Made a move with A2s, but ran in Acorn’s AJ.

12th - BurnleyMik - Made a move on Pud, who wasn;t for folding TPMK with Mik’s A7 vs Puds KJ.

11th - Zanshin - Made a move with top pair and strong flush draw, only for the top pair better kicker to hold against him.

10th - Hammerheid - Got into a blinds battle with Ant66. Hammer Doyle Brunson, 10 2o clashed with Ants K8o, with the latter coming out on top by the showdown.

9th - Biffa - Made a move with A9 and ran straight into Yorkshire puds AA.

8th - Scouse - missed most of the game, but got back just in time to shove his mega short stack with A4s into Teaulc’s TT.

7th - Yorkshire Pud - Called in position with 6c7c vs Ant’s raise. flop came 5c 7d 4c. Pud picked up top pair, Open Ender, flush and straight flush draw. He then missed every single one of his outs and Ants KK crushed his spirit!

6th - Mair - Got the money in on a Qd 5h 3h, with her 99 vs the re raise from Teaulc, who held the AhTh. The flush got there and mair was eliminated.

5th - Smoothplease - The ever consistent smooth almost hit the money again. This time calling a raise from matty H in a battle of the blinds. Matty’s K7 holds off Smooth’s JQ and smooth hits the rail.

4th - Acornman - His 88 taken down by Teaulc’s JQ. - Acorn was this weeks BUBBLE BOY!

9th - Daser - Who almost made the first break! - Daser got it all in with TT vs Acornmans QQ.

8th - BurnleyMik - Shoved AJ and was called by A8 (Pud) only for an 8 to hit on the river card.

7th - Hammerheid - Hammer made a move agains the maniac, YorkshirePud and ran his AT, into Puds AK.

6th - Scouse - Mega short, shoved T6 right into Biffa’s 64o (biffa was on BB and had to call). The 64 managed to win!

5th - Bullmeist - his deepest run to date in the RTR game - Moved over the top of Biffas raise with KJs, but Biffa made the insta call with his mighty AA

With the first player gone, the short stackers relaxed a little, knowing they wouldn’t be the loser of the week. ;-). Ant then became the second player to hit the rail in 14th place. Unfortunately I did the old trick of copying the wrong HH and I cannot remember exactly what hand he made his move with, but he was short and didnt have much choice.

Things opened up a little and Cloud started to make an excellent comeback and it was looking promising for the greatest comeback since Lazarus, until he went over the top of Acornman’s raise with QKo. Acorn called with 55 and all the hopes and dreams of Mr Cloud were ended when he didn’t manage to hit any of the board. Cloud exited in 13th spot.

Leaving the virtual felt in 12th spot was Matty H. Matty was another player who was crippled quite early, but managed to make an excellent comeback, as he did the week before, with his “never say die” attitude, when with just over 10 BB’s, he made a shove with A7o and ran straight into Mair’s 99, which held and Matty was
eliminated.

11th position, this week, was picked up by Racing Ferret. I have no idea what the hell went on because this time I somehow copied the hand before RF’s shove! FFS! Sorry RF. RF had less than 10 BB’s, so i assume he made a push and got a call.

The final table Bubble was this week taken by Amatay. The man with his poker mind all messed up (see his blog!) had his stack up and down more than a bride’s nightie! There were some people hoping he would get the better of that Yorkshirefish (which one I hear you call! ;-)), Pud! Amatay eventually bust when he shoved A9 into AJ and AJ flushed.

Then we made it to the final 9, the boys and girls who had pitted their wits and made the final table!

Well done to anyone who got this far.

The first player to bust out in 9th, was the man who finished 2nd in week one, Zanshin. Zan still managed to attend the game despite being stuck in a hotel! He was considering whether to play in the bar or not either way it couldn’t help him to score anymore points when he shoved his AK over an UTG raise from Teaulc, who called with TT and won the race.

8th player to hit the rail this week was daser, when he was unfortunate enough to run his JJ into BurnleyMik’s KK AIPF. Very unlucky, but daser stayed around long enough to encourage us to try and eliminate Yorkie pud so he didn’t have to read all about it on Pud’s Blog!

Out in 7th position was Mair, who got it all in pre flop with AQ vs Puds KQs. The KQs hit a flush. Pretty rough way to go, but all you can do is get the money in good and the rest is with the poker gods (amen) to decide.

6th placed finisher was Mair’s other half, Stanley, aka Hammerheid! Hammerheid’s JQ was no match for BurnleyMik’s AQ on a Queen high flop when all the money went in. Hammers JQ didn’t improve and he hit the rail.

The 5th placed player was the only player to have so far made the final table in all three games... Scouse. The Mega short stacked Scouse made his shove with Q9 only to run into Yorkshire Pud’s KJ. the board missed them both completely and K high takes down the pot and eliminates Scouse.

So here we were already. The final four. Bubble time!

No-one wants to get this close and then bust, but even worse, no one wants to get this far and then burst to a bad beat! This is exactly what happened to Teaulc in this hand:

That left three. The best/luckiest three players (well ok two, BurnleyMik and Pud!) at the virtual felt that evening. All of them wanting the win. It was the battle of the Two Roses and a Thistle!

There was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing going on, with no player really giving much up and the button steals working with alarming frequency for all three players. No one was getting any hands to play back with, so it was pretty tight.
