RTR Game 4

August 29, 2008

My apologies guys, but I am keeping it short and sweet this week as I am seriously struggling for time.

So a quick break down:

11 players only this week, slightly dissapointing, but still a well fought out battle. 33 mins until our first bustout.

11th - teaulc - 2nd WOODEN SPOON - 99 losing to JQ(Bullmeist)

10th - BurnleyMik - 74 vs 79

9th - Bullmiester - ATs losing to TJ (MattyH) on a Tc Ks Js flop.

8th - The Cloud - Short and pushed 44 into 88 (Hammerheid) AIPF

7th - Scouse -Missed most of game sat out, got back short and pushed 22 into KQ (MattyH)

6th - YorkiePud - Got it AIPF with QTs vs JJ (Mair) and JJ held.

5th - Acornman - Acorn shoved over the top of a raise with JKs and was called by AJ (Hammerheid)

4 handed a BIG hand went down that turned things around.

Before the hand the stacks were as follows:

Seat 4: Oenone (2690 in chips)
Seat 5: Hammerheid (3527 in chips)
Seat 7: Matty H UK (7043 in chips)
Seat 9: Mair38 (3240 in chips)

Then the monster:

Heads Up

Stacks:

Seat 4: Oenone (2465 in chips)
Seat 5: Hammerheid (14035 in chips)

So, with Hammer having an almost 7:1 chip lead, things were looking bleak for Zanshin.

Two hands later it was all over. Here is the final hand of the tourney this week:

Table ‘101075559 1′ 9-max Seat #5 is the button

Seat 5: Hammerheid (button) (small blind) showed [Kh 8h] and won (4180) with a pair of Kings

So a big congratulations to Hammerheid who adds another $27.50 to his points.

Commiserations, but a very well done to an extremely patient Zanshin to pick up second spot, he also adds points to his final total because he won $16.50

CONGRATULATIONS HAMMERHEID!!

So, after week four, lets have a look at the current standings:

Position Name Points ($)
1st Hammerheid 62.50
2nd Yorkshire Pudding 37.50
2nd Zanshin 37.50
3rd smoothplease 35
4th BurnleyMik 22.50
5th Scouse 21
6th Acornman 15
7th The Cloud 14
7th Teaulc 14
8th MattyH 11

So things are starting to open up a bit at the top with Hammerheid taking a clear lead. This is the first week where a points scorer from a previous week has made it into the top three and this week TWO of them do it!

As I always say its all still to play for. With 6 weeks remaining can you afford to miss this week?

Now for the bit you have all been waiting for!

1. Best Hammer Play- BM hammering cloud early doors, when cloud folded his 88 to a 3-bet.

2. Bad Beat Of the Night- MAttyH - Sufferred numerous!

3. Wooden Spoon Award- Teaulc

4. Best Show Bluff - None :-(

5. Bubble Girl-Mair

A big thank-you to everyone who played and supported RTR. Please don’t miss round 5 next week!

RTR Premier League - Game 3 Write-up

Once again Sunday night saw the coming together of Raise The River’s finest at the virtual felt. 15 Players turned up, raring to play poker and “hammer” each other into oblivion!

3 Mins in and we almost had our first elimination, when Cloud and Pud clashed Head to Head with this hand:

Really harsh on Cloud, but its fully understandable that its probably going in on that flop with those two hands, already Pud runs goot! That left cloud with just 90 chips. After 3 mins of play. Surely he had to collect this weeks Wooden Spoon??

Well next to get into the frame of short stack and contender for the Wooden Spoon was Ant66 (Aka THE ROCK) when he was crippled by daser in this action generating hand:

OOF! thats rough! PokerStars was on fine form! Flopped trips vs the flopped full house! The river probably saved ant from going broke in this hand.

So thats two lots of big hands, putting two players in contention for the dreaded wooden spoon!

Which of these two players do you think got the wooden spoon? Go on, have a guess…?

NEITHER! It was snatched right from under their noses!

This weeks Wooden Spoon goes to.. BULLMEIST! Out in 15th spot with this unlucky hand:

Someone needs to tell Bully to respect the Pudsters raises!!! You can’t go busto with QQ when the Wooden Spoon has not yet been taken! Let that be a lesson to you all!!!!!! :-)

This is just for you Bull “The Wooden Spoon” Meister..

With the first player gone, the short stackers relaxed a little, knowing they wouldn’t be the loser of the week. ;-). Ant then became the second player to hit the rail in 14th place. Unfortunately I did the old trick of copying the wrong HH and I cannot remember exactly what hand he made his move with, but he was short and didnt have much choice.

Things opened up a little and Cloud started to make an excellent comeback and it was looking promising for the greatest comeback since Lazarus, until he went over the top of Acornman’s raise with QKo. Acorn called with 55 and all the hopes and dreams of Mr Cloud were ended when he didn’t manage to hit any of the board. Cloud exited in 13th spot.

Leaving the virtual felt in 12th spot was Matty H. Matty was another player who was crippled quite early, but managed to make an excellent comeback, as he did the week before, with his “never say die” attitude, when with just over 10 BB’s, he made a shove with A7o and ran straight into Mair’s 99, which held and Matty was
eliminated.

11th position, this week, was picked up by Racing Ferret. I have no idea what the hell went on because this time I somehow copied the hand before RF’s shove! FFS! Sorry RF. RF had less than 10 BB’s, so i assume he made a push and got a call.

The final table Bubble was this week taken by Amatay. The man with his poker mind all messed up (see his blog!) had his stack up and down more than a bride’s nightie! There were some people hoping he would get the better of that Yorkshirefish (which one I hear you call! ;-)), Pud! Amatay eventually bust when he shoved A9 into AJ and AJ flushed.

Then we made it to the final 9, the boys and girls who had pitted their wits and made the final table!

Well done to anyone who got this far.

The first player to bust out in 9th, was the man who finished 2nd in week one, Zanshin. Zan still managed to attend the game despite being stuck in a hotel! He was considering whether to play in the bar or not either way it couldn’t help him to score anymore points when he shoved his AK over an UTG raise from Teaulc, who called with TT and won the race.

8th player to hit the rail this week was daser, when he was unfortunate enough to run his JJ into BurnleyMik’s KK AIPF. Very unlucky, but daser stayed around long enough to encourage us to try and eliminate Yorkie pud so he didn’t have to read all about it on Pud’s Blog!

Out in 7th position was Mair, who got it all in pre flop with AQ vs Puds KQs. The KQs hit a flush. Pretty rough way to go, but all you can do is get the money in good and the rest is with the poker gods (amen) to decide.

6th placed finisher was Mair’s other half, Stanley, aka Hammerheid! Hammerheid’s JQ was no match for BurnleyMik’s AQ on a Queen high flop when all the money went in. Hammers JQ didn’t improve and he hit the rail.

The 5th placed player was the only player to have so far made the final table in all three games... Scouse. The Mega short stacked Scouse made his shove with Q9 only to run into Yorkshire Pud’s KJ. the board missed them both completely and K high takes down the pot and eliminates Scouse.

So here we were already. The final four. Bubble time!

No-one wants to get this close and then bust, but even worse, no one wants to get this far and then burst to a bad beat! This is exactly what happened to Teaulc in this hand:

Once again you can do no more than get it in ahead. Teaulc was very unlucky and there were rumours that BurnleyMik had tears in BOTH of his glass eyes! ;-). In reality, a horrible way to bubble.

That left three. The best/luckiest three players (well ok two, BurnleyMik and Pud!) at the virtual felt that evening. All of them wanting the win. It was the battle of the Two Roses and a Thistle!

There was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing going on, with no player really giving much up and the button steals working with alarming frequency for all three players. No one was getting any hands to play back with, so it was pretty tight.

here is how the stacks were looking going into three handed:

Seat 1: BurnleyMik (15533 in chips)
Seat 2: Yorksh1rePud (3947 in chips)
Seat 3: zagga (3020 in chips)

A race was the decider for Acornman, who picks up 3rd spot and $15/points. A great perfomance “Mr Consistent”!

and then ther were two…

the battle of the roses.

Burnleymik - Lancashire Red Rose
YorkshirePud- Yorkshire White Rose

Pride was at stake. The two “gobbiest” trash talkers at the virtual felt got to the heads up, but all went quiet apart from a few “meh”’s and “ffs”’s.. :-)

The stacks were looking like this:

Seat 1: BurnleyMik (18928 in chips)
Seat 2: Yorksh1rePud (3572 in chips)

BurnleyMik had an almost 5:1 Chiplead on Yorkshire Pud. The blinds were 100/200 as we entered the warriors cove.. Heads Up!

Game 2 of the RTR Premier League

August 12, 2008

Sunday Night was the 2nd game in the series of the all new raise the river premier league of poker. Once again 14 players took to the virtual felt of the tables over at PokerStars to battle down to the top three. Those three would then go into battle where there could only be one winner.

This week the game started off much slower than usual and after over 30 minutes of play there wasn’t a single bust out, I mean it was clear no one wanted the weekly title of the dreaded… WOODEN SPOON!

So who got it I hear you ask……

This week our Wooden Spoon winner is….

ZANSHIN! - Here is the hand that sealed his fate:

Things were now going at the speed of light and we had our 13th position exit, courtesy of Mair, when the two short stacks, herself and biffa got it all in pre flop with 78o for Mair and Biffa with JJ. 78 didnt get the suckout and Mair exited the game.

Biffa was the next out in 12thwhen he went to push daser off a hand on the river, his read of Daser being weak seemed right, but unfortunately the river card had given daser the full house with 5’s full of 4’s to Biffa’s 2 pair.

11th Position went to the “RTR Rock”Ant!! “Tighter than a ducks *#@$ (another word for bottom)” is just one of the comments heard about Ant! hehe. The poker gods were simply not on his side after he proceeded to miss every flop he played. He eventually go extremely unlucky when his short stack shove on a board of Kd3d3c was called by Hammerheid with QdTd vs Ant’s AcQc and the flush got there by the turn.

Final table bubble (10th)was earned by Bullmeist, who went out in a straight race with his 55 vs KJs. Bully also made the strangest lay down I have ever seen at the virtual felt, earlier in the game, with this hand..

He managed to fold the nuts on the river, where he could have eliminated two players! LOL Donkaments! ;-)

So here we were, down to the final table and the 9 remaining players were to go on to battle it out. With no mercy given at any point and banter flying around the chat like a drug-crazed bat!

First person to be eliminated from the final table was BurnleyMik (9th Spot)When he shoved over a raise by Teaulc and was insta called. It was a good situation for Teaulc who’s QQ held vs the AK of BM.

here is the showdown and finally on stars, justice was done!

Out in 8th was Daser, who ran his AQ smack into AK! Not much you can do with those to be fair!

7th Spot went to Mr Straight Flush himself, Racing Ferret. RF made his move with J9, only to run head on right into the mighty KK.

At this stage with 6 left the chipleader was clearly Smoothplease and after his win last week he was looking at another promising finish until a key turning hand happened for him vs the new terminator, Teaulc! Here is the clincher:

Flopped top pair into the over pair. Very unlucky, but this was crippling to Smooth.

Smoothplease then made his exit in 6th Spotby pushing 88 in position and was called by Hammerheid A6s. An ace on the board sealed Smooth’s fate and unfortunately this week he will be receiving NIL POI! Smooth is now on holiday for a couple of weeks which gives us all chance to catch him!!

So, then there were 5. The Man to bust out in 5th was this weeks short-stack-ninja and Mr “never say die” Matty H, who came back from some horrible early luck to claw his was back to this deep. He eventually pushed with his 33 and ran into hammers AK, which got there and took Matty out.

Now it was bubble time…. No one wants to get this deep and get sweet FA for their hard efforts. Here were the final four..

Seat 1: teaulc (9955 in chips)
Seat 3: zagga (1180 in chips)
Seat 8: scouse3465 (5010 in chips)
Seat 9: Hammerheid (4855 in chips)

None of them had scored points in last weeks game, which was good for the rest of us and meaning it would keep the game wide open.

Teaulc held a good strong chip-lead and was playing well and in no mood to relinquish it!

Time for this weeks bubble boy then.. congrats to Acornman on his 4th spot(aka Zagga)!!!!! Zag made his move and here is the hand:

Then there were 3. The finest at the virtual felt this week. 3 Poker warriors fighting it out, knowing there could only be one winner.

Scouse, hammerheid or Teaulc, there could only be one.

The stacks were as follow:

Seat 1: teaulc (10880 in chips)
Seat 8: scouse3465 (6615 in chips)
Seat 9: Hammerheid (3505 in chips)
small blind 100
big blind 200

So plenty of play available for Teaulc and also for Scouse. Hammer had an “M” of just over ten so was also not in desperate trouble. They fought on for a while and then a key hand occurred between the short stacked Hammerheid and the big stack Teaulc.

here is how the action went down:

This gave Hammerheid a key double up at a prominet time also reducing the Chip Leaders stack, meaning all three were roughly on level stacks. looking like this at that stage:

Seat 1: teaulc (6675 in chips)
Seat 8: scouse3465 (6915 in chips)
Seat 9: Hammerheid (7410 in chips)

At this point a HUGE hand occurred. A real monster of a hand that helped decide the fate of the game. A monster pot was created and here’s how it went down…

So Teaulc’s bad luck continued when it mattered and he left the game in a very respectable 3rd spot, but I am sure dissapointing for hm, 3rd spot and a small payday of $14/points.

Hammerheid had now come back from last in chips to having a monster stack of around 15k. He had a rough chip lead of around 3:1 going into the heads up Battle vs Scouse.

Here we were, Heads Up. Two players left. Both wanting the win.

Hammerheid had played well and aggressively, making a few tough calls, but being on the right end of the showdowns. He was now the danger and the man with the chips. He knew he had it within his reach, all he had to do was take out Scouse!

Scouse had been tight-solid all the way through, making very few mistakes and never going to showdown without a good hand. Nothing crazy and a few “woop woop” ’s along the way got him into this HU situation!

Hammerheid chipped away at Scouse and by the looks of the play Scouse wasn’t hitting the flops and Hammer was continually keeping the pressure on, until finally it all went in here:

Game 1 of the New RTR Premier League

August 5, 2008

The first game of the new RaiseTheRiver Premier League was played out on Sunday evening.

14 of RTR’s finest, took to the virtual felt to battle it out for those valuable points, on their way to the title!

Before the game started a betting chart was organised and right at the beginning, this is how things looked..

Mair 9/2jf
BurnleyMik 9/2jf
MattyH 9/2jf
Biffa 5/1
Acorn 11/2
Cloud 11/2
Scouse 11/2
Teaulc 6/1
RacingFerret 6/1
JonnyFish 7/1
Ant 1966 7/1
Zanshin 9/1
Bullmeist 9/1
Hammerheid 9/1

With late edition smoothplease probably looking at about 6/1. Although he didn’t have his name in until very late, so unfortunately an initial price wasn’t set.

A few people put small wagers on themselves and their friends, just to add some interest.

The time arrived and the 14 players proceeded to do battle. There could only be one winner and here is how it panned out…

Out in 14th was teaulc, who made a mis-read of Scouse and ran his top pair into Scouse’s, only Scouse had the better kicker! Teaul was already short before his elimination.

You can see the hand and the banter here:

The 13th player to leave the virtual felt was the normally consistent HammerHeid.

Hammer unfortunately pushed his Open ended straight draw, whilst short stacked, straight into the flopped two pair of Zanshin!

Hammerheid, just missed the mighty wooden spoon by a matter of seconds!!!

Out in 12th was Bullmeisterwho went for the kill vs BurnleyMik holding the HAMMER! BurnleyMik picked up the 2nd nut flush draw and two overs on a low raggy flop. Kudos to Bullmeister for the mighty effort and exiting with the best hand in the game!

here is the hand in all its glory:

Very unlucky Mr Bullmiest!

The normally extremely consistent Acornman exited the game in 11th Spot, when his 88 was no match for JonnyFish’s AK. AIPF.

The Final Table bubble prize (10th) was received by Daser who was the mini-raising King!!. Unfortunately it was the only exit hand I totally missed, so I am really sorry about that.

Then there were nine….

First player to bust the Final Table was Scouse, when his TT didnt hold against Smoothpleases AQ. Scouse ended the tourney in 9th Position.

With eight players remaining things slowed a little, but not much! haha.

Mair exited 8th when short-stacked she moved her chips into the middle. The new terminator, Smoothplease, called with AJ and Mairs KJ didnt improve for the APAT champion to exit the game.

In 7th Positionwas “the cash game donk” JonnyFish! Unfortunately jonny’s internet had bust and he had to leave where he was playing and so he was sat out when BurnleyMik stole his final chips!

6th placed finisher was Racing Ferret, who put in a decent performance for his first RTR game, when he made a move with 10 BB’s from the button with TJ, only to run into The Cloud, who was lying in wait in the SB with QQ. A ten flopped, but that was as good as it got for RF.

In 5th place was Biffa85, who stayed quietly aggressive over the side of the table, not doing much, but then suddenly pouncing and taking pots! The very active Smoothplease raised Biffa’s BB and so, biffa then moved his chips into the middle. The insta-call by Smooth obviously wasn’t a good sign and smooth tabled QQ, which held vs Biffa’s A2.

So now its time for the points/money bubble boy….

BURNLEYMIK - 4th Place for me!

I went out with a MONSTER. i went for the kill with THE HAMMER. I would show you the hand, but I managed to copy the HH from the hand directly after instead! haha.

Basically, I shoved from the button with about 7 BB’s. Cloud woke up in the SB with 99 and made the call. The flop came a magnificent 77x for me to catch trips baby, but two hearts on the board and then another two on the turn and river meant my suckout was humongously RE-sucked out on!! it was a hand for the cameras!

So out I went on the Bubble.

So then there were three top names at the table. The three guys who deserved to be there and the three guys who were now grappling for that top spot after week 1!

the_Cloud71
SmoothPlease
Zanshin.

these were the boys who raised, folded, called and shoved their way into the money spots. Over 1 hour and 30 mins of tough poker play. Now the heat would turn up…

The Cloud was the man to pick up 3rd spot and $14/points. here is his exit hand…

The terminator had done it again. This time he was stealing the thunder of the cloud!

So here we were.. Heads Up For the first game of the series.

Two warriors of poker playing their best, trying to out-think and out play each otehr at every single given opportunity. Each man trying to expose a weakness of his foe, so he could pounce.

Here were the final stacks:

Smoothplease - 16.9k
Zanshin - 4.1k

Smooth (aka the terminator) was heading into the HU with a healthy 4:1 chip lead. the blinds were 100/200 with 25 antes.

There was a bit of to’ing abnd fro’ing, but two miutes later the action hand came…

Smooth flopped the open-ender and Zanshin hit second pair good kicker. It all went in and once again the terminator came out on top of a showdown! Commiserations, but a fine performance from Zanshin on his second spot finish for $21/points

but that was it and we had our winner!!

SMOOTHPLEASE!!
