Knightmare_Nick returns. Not to ruin another bankroll. Just ruin the show!
The forum Administrators and Moderators vs the Forumites.
July 30, 2008
Sunday evening saw 24 people from the RTR forum turn up for the Main Event! This was the one, the Admin and Mods vs the rest of RTR.
All of the Admin had $10 bounties on their heads and all of the Moderators had $5 bounties on their heads.
We all knew it was going to be great fun, with plenty of threats of the Hammer (72o, the worst starting hand in poker)being laid to try and eliminate the other players!
A fun event was most certainly had, with plenty of banter and you never ever knew if you were facing mad aggression from someone holding AA or if they had the Hammer (cue the Hammertime music).
Below is the finishing list for the event:

Mary Martin Wins APAT UK Team Championship for RTR!
July 20, 2008
Start popping those Champagne bottles ‘cos our lass has brought home the bacon!
Mary Martin, better known as Mair 38, has won the APAT Team Championship representing the Raise the River team.
The APAT Administrator walks away with £1,250, as well as bagging £1,500 for the Raise the River Team. As we are so fond of saying here at Raise the River: get in you little dancer!
I was briefly there for the festivities yesterday and near the start of the event she was telling Mik and myself how she’d just put her tournament life on the line and doubled through - I must admit she looked a little petrified (no wonder she went out for a cig!). But as the reports continued to roll in on, it seemed more and more likely that she was destined to go all the way, and she did when her KQ held up against Andy Bailey’s Q9.
Not only is this a fantastic result for the community but it’s a great advert for poker; not only for a female to win a prestigious event but for a person as kind, caring and generous as Mary (who puts so much time and effort into our community) to win it… well, it could not have happened to a nicer person.
A special mention must also go to RTR’s other lady competitor, Lou Saban who finished in tenth place. Congratulations to the blokes as well who… turned up.
Expect a more detailed report on the event in the days to come when the RTR team returns.
We are the champions and Mary is our Queen!
Ultimate Bet - Scandal??
July 17, 2008
There are currently lots of ugly rumours flying around about online poker site Ultimate Bet. Initially it was found that the “old” owners of the website still had access to “Super-User” accounts. Super User accounts were supposedly able to see the hole cards of everyone at the table, thus allowing the player to make faultless decisions.
This was spotted by an online poker community who then started putting the information they had together until, eventually, Ultimate Bet admitted that this was actually the case and started a thorough investigation of their software and the whole scandal.
Months later, the investigation was wrapped up and it was said that the old owners were involved in the scam. All monies were confiscated and returned to the high stakes players, who it was originally stolen from. All the accounts of the super-users frozen and that was supposedly the end.
Recently MORE super-user accounts have been discovered by players and now by the UB team. This has caused lots more unrest in the online poker community. It has now also been supposedly found that the new UB regime is still linked to the orignial owners.
A whistle blower was allegedly to have posted some very interesting information about account transfers from within UB, showing the top brass of the company being linked to the Super User accounts, which has thrown the whole orignal investigation and Ultimate Bet into dissaray.
Rumours are that because someone whole was involved in this scandal is based in the USA then the relevant authorities would be able to step in and as a consequence could lead to funds and assets being frozen.
One thing is for sure, something very suspicious and possibly seedy is going on.
The company that owns Ultimate Bet are also owners of Absolute Poker (or were) and the two sites are closely linked.
Would I leave my money in any of those sites?? Not a chance.
The real shame is that these companies are dragging online poker further and further down a dark road that could really affect the reputation of online poker for your average casual fish.
I guess we will have to wait and see how the story develops, but at the moment all is not looking good.
