Daniel Negreanu’s New Book…

June 26, 2008

Power Hold'em by Daniel NegreanuDaniel Negreanu, “Kid Poker”… 4 WSOP bracelets, 2 WPT Championships, 2004 Player of the Year, 40 tournament wins and over $8million in tournament earnings… Now, 2 time author of Cardoza Publishing!

Cardoza Publishing, the brand that players have turned to for reliable, unbiased and accurate information for over 25 years are pleased to announce the International launch of their next bestseller. Over the years the world’s foremost publisher in gaming and gambling has produced a number of iconic titles and we are confident that ‘Power Hold’em Strategy’ will prove to be as important.

Owner and Publisher Avery Cardoza states “It has always been our philosophy to publish books by the world’s top poker authorities and champions. Power Hold’em ticks all the appropriate boxes and I am sure will provide the perfect platform for all levels of player’s to improve their game.”

Power Hold’em Strategy is the most anticipated title since Super System 2 and will position “Kid Poker” (Negreanu) alongside our most popular authors such as Doyle Brunson, Mike Caro, Bobby Baldwin and T.J Cloutier.

Contributing to this masterpiece of poker strategy are some of the “Hottest” players in poker today, including:

Todd Brunson

David Williams

Erick Lindgren

Evelyn Ng

Paul Wasicka

These players share their professional moves and winning secrets. You’ll learn about short-handed and heads-up play, high-limit cash games, a powerful beginner’s strategy to neutralize professional players, how to mix up your play, bluff, and win big pots.  The centerpiece, however, is Negreanu’s powerful and revolutionary small ball strategy. “You’ll learn how to play hold’em with cards you never would have played before — and with fantastic results.” The preflop, flop, turn and river will never look the same again.

Speaking about the book, Negreanu explains, “The tons of excellent information in this book will help your no-limit hold’em game improve immensely, whether you are an online grinder, a low-limit tournament player, or even an aspiring pro looking to play on the big-time poker circuit. We tried to fit in as many helpful hand examples as we could without creating a 1,000-page monster! When you apply the advice we’ve given you to your own game, I have no doubt that you will improve rapidly. Equally important, this book should help you understand the mindset of small-ball players so that when you face off against one, you won’t be confused by his approach. Instead, you will be able to exploit him.”

New forums… Same old forums

June 20, 2008

You may have noticed that the colour scheme and the design of the website hasn’t matched the blue and white of the forum over the past couple of months. Well today it does!

We (or rather Hull Jimi) has worked tirelessly on the new forum, making sure it looks fab and attracts new members to make our poker community even better than it already is.

All the usual forums are there and all the posts have migrated over to the new forum. Over the next couple of days we’ll be monitoring things to make sure it all runs smoothly. So if you have any suggests and comments, don’t hesitate to fire them in either on this news post, the forum thread, or by PMing any of the admin team.

In the meantime, enjoy the new forum and keep on posting!

Champions League Fixture 2

June 9, 2008

Well the second game of the series was played on Sudnay night with a full turnout (thanks everyone!) Group A finally managed to play this week, despite HJ having to come in from the lovely sunshine and cold beer to do so!

Very suprisingly group B and C both repeated the exact same results as the previous week, but not without a fight, i can tell you!

Group A

The MTT champion and favourite FTW, was the first to be eliminated whne he “apparantly” got busted playing rags! Knowing kenn there would have been some method to his madness! The heads Up came with dD having a significant chip lead over HJ and after a sweet suckout he put pains to HJ and took it down for the win!

Position RTR Name Points
1st dD 234
2nd HullJimi 169
3rd kennl 131

Group B

Well the mini battle of Scotland kicked off again and after popping over to try and catch the odd moment of their game. Each time I went over I saw Lukybugur apologising in the chat box and I still don’t know why!!! Anyway, eventually Luky was the first out and HU was left to Mair and Hammer, two players currently in fine form. After a tussle, which i didnt manage to see much of due to the pressure my opponent was putting on me, Hammerheid came out as the victor of group B again.

Position RTR Name Points
1st Hammerheid 468
2nd Mair38 338
3rd lukybugur 262

Group C

Group C started off as it did the previous week… aggressive! 3-betting and min raising going on all over the place! BurnleyMik busted Johnnyfish with AA firstly to take the mst of his stack and then finally for johnny to shove over BM’s raise, with BM insta calling with AK to Johnny’s QK. The HU battle started with BM holding a good 2:1 CL, but Cloud wasn’t having any of that and almost immediately got it back to about level. The game two’d and fro’d with both players getting the other to fold the better hand numerous times. Eventually BM got lucky and won a decent pot to giove him the 2:1 CL again, but jsut as the blinds went up, meaning cloud had less than 10 BB’s. It all eventually went in with Cloud shoving A5 and BM making the call with JJ and the JJ holding. Here are the Group C standings:

1st Burnleymik 468
2nd The Cloud 338
3rd johnnyfish 262

WSOP Update - 6th June ‘08

June 6, 2008

Well so far we have 4 Bracelet winners in this years WSOP!

here is the current List:

Event #1 - $10k PLHE - Nenad Medic (Canada) - $794,112
Event #2 - $1.5k NLHE - Grant Hinkle -$831,462
Event #3 - $1.5 PLHE - David Singer (USA) - $214k
Event #4 - $5k Mixed HE - Eric Lingdren - $374k

So two big names and well known poker pros win 2 of the 4 events held so far! Who says that poker is not a game of skill??!!!!!!!

There have been problems for the reporters out in Vegas with the amount of events running simultaneously and from what I have read its been damn near impossible for them to keep up with the bustouts and the chip counts, especially in the fast events like the Fixed limit Hold’em. All that said, they are doing a superb job!

As of last night (5th) there were 4 other events running, including the one with lots of huge names, the $10k World Championship Event and two more due to start in a few hours.

I wonder how many we will see in the ME????

Any guesses?

The New Staking Forums

June 5, 2008

A few weeks back a decision was made to create a new area of the RTR forums for staking, this was to include players looking to be staked (not begging!), people looking to stake players and also players to be able to sell shares of their action into bigger events.

This has taken off very nicely with numerous well known members of the forum participating. Some profit and loss has been made and so fasr everything has run well!

You can read HERE about how the staking works, whats involved and expected and all the instructions on how to place a stake and to look for a stake can also be found over at the forums.

So, like I was saying so far its been successful and a nice addition, so we have decided that a staked League Table should be created, this is an easy way for people to quickly see who the best players are to stake, what sort of levels they play and also the number of times they have been staked., here is the latest table, which will likely be updated weekly:

Position Name No. of times staked Av. Buy In Profit/Loss
1st EvertonYorkie 3 $4 +$57.59
2nd Mair38 1 $26 +$49
3rd MikeSaban 1 $5.50 +$2.37
4th TanOrphues 1 $11 -$11
5th BurnleyMik 1 $4.40 -$17.76
6th Johnnyfish 1 $26 -$26
7th G-Unit 1 $3.30 -$49.50

Remember not to judge a player by one staked deal for obvious reasons!! You can also see what the people who did the staking thought of the player they backed, by checking out the feedback forum HERE

All in all though its been a great addition, we look forward to hopefully getting some great success stories on there!!

Enjoy!

**DISCLAIMER** RTR Cannot be held responsible for the actions of the players, although we wish we could, these deals are based on trust and honesty, we reccomend you make sure you read the instructions and guidlines carefully for your own and everyone else’s benefits!

This is the event they all come together, the top online pros and the top live pros as well as amatuers who have satellited in from other sources.

We at raise the River have set-up a Forum dedicated to the WSOP 2008, where we are all trying to keep the latest news and updates coming so that we can all stay in touch with the action!

So far the series is upto Day 5 with only one event having finished as this goes to press. The winner of event number 1, the $10k NLHE event, and the winner of the first bracelet is Nenad Medic and takes down a first place prize of just over $794k! The Day two event has a record number of entrants for any WSOP event outside the ME, with a staggering field of 3929 players!

As day 5 starts we know that with two more events starting today there will be a combined total of 5 events running on the same day, this is due to the over-subscription on Event#2. So today these are the events running concurrently:

Event 3 - $1,500 PLHE - Day 2
Event 4 - $5K Mixed HE - Day 2
Event 5 - 1K NL + Rebuys - Day 1

There are some very big names in the Mixed Hold’em event (number 4), Some recognisable ones with good stacks at the minute are:
