LOL. If you EVER find the answer to this please, please please let me know!!!!! ;-)

Only bit of advice i can give you is try to keep pots small until you get to the river, unless you are trying to force out drawing hands. Basically suckouts just cannot be avoided. All you can do is get your money in with the best hand!

hmmm. When do you decide you have to start making moves? How many BB's?

As a rule of thumb I tend to try and now let myself go too much below ten BB's in the middle stages of the game. Anything below ten BB's and its push or fold time.

So for example, say the blinds are 75/150 and i had 1300 chips left and it folds to me on the button I now have a huge pushing range here. I would probably shove any ace, any pair any two paint cards etc. 80% of the time you pick up the blinds and this is crucial play to maintain your stack.

Sorry if i am patronising you. Just think its useful info.

As a general rule you want to start moving in from late position in an unraised pot when you get to less than 10 big blinds. If you let yourself get lower then people will not fold after they raise and you move all in as they will be getting the right odds to call even though they know they probably have a worse hand than you.

I would reccomend Harrington on Hold'em volume 2 as a good book about the middle stages of tourneys.

Cheers for the book recomendation and the comment on my blog re this kind of situation Doomswitch.Hopefully experience will help too over the longer run and it'll become easier to pick the right spots during these tough mid-stages.

I believe HoH and other books can be found online if you search some of the Bit Torrent sites !!!!

Oh and Totally agree with Mik and Doom in general except Miks button shove <10 BB is to tight. I prefer to shove 54o than A rag there as the likely calling range is any Ace and then your in worse shape than the likely to live rag cards. However, 10BB is relevant to players left, their stacks and also the blind level, so true at 50/100 but maybe not so true if you get to 150/300 with 4 left. 3k is still a playable stack (for a lap at least !!!!)
